2010-04-22: Tech's Marc Wallace Presents at NOISE-CON

The NOISE-CON 2010 conference, presented jointly by the Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE) and the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), took place this week in Baltimore.  The conference included over 1,300 papers in 143 sessions, including 24 sessions and 175 papers presented on the topic of noise control.

The Construction Noise Session had a very strong showing. There were 14 presentations in this session, including a presentation by Tech’s Marc Wallace entitled “How Good is the Roadway Construction Noise Model at Predicting Highway Construction Noise Impacts?”  This presentation evaluated the new FHWA model using actual data from a large highway project in Massachusetts, and compared its results to those produced by a comprehensive 3-D model. The study concluded that RCNM is a good model for conservatively estimating impacts from stationary equipment in flat/rolling terrain.
