Michael E. Haynes Building BPDA Article 80 Large Project Evaluation

SERVICE:

Air and Noise Analysis

DESCRIPTION:

Tech conducted an air quality and noise analysis to satisfy the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) requirements for the proposed Michael E. Haynes Building in Boston, Massachusetts. The proposed project included an 83,887 square foot (sf) building with both commercial space and residential units, and a parking garage.

Tech performed a quantitative garage air quality analysis by determining the per vehicle-mile emission rate for vehicles entering and exiting the garage, and using the emission rate in the AERMOD dispersion model to determine the 1-hour and 8-hour CO concentrations at nearby sensitive receptors. Tech also collected ambient sound level measurements from surrounding locations in the project area to determine the maximum allowable noise from the project operations while staying within MassDEP’s 10-dBA above ambient limit. The Cadna-A acoustic model and project equipment and operations data were used to determine the noise impact at nearby sensitive receptors. Tech demonstrated that the air and noise impacts would be well within local and state regulations.
