Greenhouse Gas Analysis

DESCRIPTION:

Tech performed a greenhouse gas (GHG) analysis for Emerald Pines, located in Methuen, MA. The development, consisting of 140 single family homes needed to quantify CO2 emissions and identify measures to avoid, minimize, or mitigate such emissions. Tech followed the GHG Emissions Policy and Protocol, requiring quantification of GHG emissions from three sources: direct emissions from on-site stationary sources, indirect emissions from off-site generated electricity, and traffic generated by the project. Using energy design software, Tech calculated the CO2 emissions produced for both the Base Case and the Mitigation Alternative. It was found that the Mitigation Alternative would reduce overall Project energy use and reduce CO2 emissions when compared to the Base Case. Transportation Demand Management (TDM) measures for this project would also reduce Project-related motor vehicle CO2 emissions. The net reduction of the Project's total CO2 emissions (stationary sources plus transportation) was calculated to be 10.5% compared to the Base Case.
