Four Home Depot Fuel Cells

SERVICE:

Sound Study

DESCRIPTION:

Tech completed sound studies of four Bloom Energy fuel cells to be installed at Home Depot locations in Bridgeport, Derby, Enfield, and Fairfield, Connecticut. The fuel cells convert chemical energy from natural gas into electricity, and reduce each store's electrical utility usage. Tech conducted nighttime ambient sound monitoring at each Home Depot location to document existing sound levels, and performed acoustic modeling of each site to determine if the proposed fuel cells would comply with the Connecticut DEP Noise Regulations, and any applicable local regulations. The studies determined that some sites required additional mitigation to maintain compliance, and at those sites Tech designed sound barrier walls, or recommended moving the location of the fuel cell, to ensure compliance.

Key Points

  • Four Home Depot sites in Connecticut were investigating installing Bloom Energy fuel cells to reduce their electrical utility usage.
  • Tech performed a sound study of each proposed fuel cell and, if necessary, recommended mitigation measures to ensure compliance with state and local regulations.
