Self Storage Building, Dedham

SERVICE:

Sound Study

DESCRIPTION:

Tech was asked to perform sound compliance monitoring for a self-storage building that was going to have rooftop units installed. The MassDEP Noise Policy limits sound to no more than 10 dBA above the nighttime ambient sound level at nearby residential property lines. To demonstrate compliance, Tech performed background sound monitoring at the site. Using that data, Tech engineers performed acoustic modeling to calculate predicted sound levels from the rooftop units. The results of the modeling calculations revealed that the predicted sound levels would comply with the MassDEP Noise Policy at all noise sensitive locations and therefore it could be concluded that the rooftop units would not be considered nuisances.

Key Points

  • Tech was asked to perform a sound study to determine if rooftop units atop a self-storage building the units would create a nuisance, per the MassDEP Noise Policy, in the surrounding neighborhood.
  • Tech collected nighttime ambient sound levels and performed acoustic modeling to determine the predicted sound levels at the closest residences. It was concluded that the rooftop units would be in compliance and no further mitigation measures were needed.
