Hancock Wind Project

SERVICE:

Sound Study

DESCRIPTION:

Tech completed an independent peer review of the 55-MW Hancock Wind Project. The proposal was for the installation of 18 Siemens ST113 (3.0 MW) or 18 Vestas V112 (3.075- MW) wind turbines. The review was of the acoustic impacts of the total wind project with regard to the nighttime noise sound limit of 42 dBA. Tech reviewed sound test reports from wind energy facilities with turbines located in similar settings and realized that the predicted turbines levels should be accurate due to the conservative modeling approach followed by a different consulting company. Tech used 3D acoustic modeling, and other appropiate to accurately predict sound levels. Tech concluded the Hancock Wind Project, no matter which group of turbines was used, would be in compliance with the Maine Noise Regulations and no further mitigation would be required.
