DESCRIPTION:

A Walmart store was being proposed for a residential neighborhood in Monroe, CT. Because of the close vicinity to residences, a sound study needed to be performed to demonstrate compliance with the town noise policy. Tech recognized the potential sound sources from the study as rooftop and ground level mechanical equipment. With Tech's assistance, numerous mitigations measures were identified to lower the noise emitting from the site. With Walmart committing to these measures, Tech was able to perform acoustic modeling of the site. With this modeling, and implementation of the mitigation measures, Tech was able to calculate sound levels at the closest residences to the proposed site. The sound levels calculated were low enough that Tech could conclude compliance with the Connecticut DEP Noise Regulation and Town of Monroe Zoning Board.
