Industrial Performance Standards Review

DESCRIPTION:

As the technical reviewer for the Devens Enterprise Commission (the DEC), Tech Environmental (Tech) was responsible for determining whether a proposed movie studio would meet the Industrial Performance Standards (IPS).  The facility would meet most of the requirements overall and all of the requirements indoors.  Unfortunately, the facility desired to have outdoor productions available without properly defining the sound or vibration potential.  Tech performed some preliminary calculations for the proponent and suggested a more detailed approach to ensure compliance with the IPS. Specifically Tech expressed concerns regarding the HVAC system that was undefined at the time.  As you can see from the picture associated with the PD, the developer came up with a very good HVAC sound mitigation design that was integrated into the studio design. This project was a great example of how the IPS checklist, designed by Tech, identified areas of concern so they could be seamlessly incorporated into the design with minimal additional costs.
