New England Sheets Facility Sound Analysis

DESCRIPTION:

Tech examined the noise modeling calculations of the original study to verify their accuracy and completeness. Tech conducted a modeling analysis which demonstrated that there is the potential for exceedances of the Industrial Performance Standards at the nearest residential property from rail car unloading activities. Tech proposed adding resilient snubbing to the dock plates to reduce the potential impulsive sound produced by forklift's wheels riding over the portable dock plates. Tech recommended that the facility demonstrate that the resilient snubbing would provide the necessary sound reduction. Based on Tech's peer review, the DEC approved the building permit for New England Sheets.

Tech Environmental Inc. (Tech) was retained by the Devens Enterprise Commission to do a peer review of a sound study for the latest New England Sheets facility in Devens, MA. The sound study focused on the potential for exceedances of the Industrial Performance Standards at the nearest residential property from rail car unloading activities. It was necessary for this facility to demonstrate compliance with the impulsive noise limit in order for New England Sheets to obtain a permit to develop their facility in Devens.
