Noise Analysis for Wind Turbine

DESCRIPTION:

Sustainable Energy Developments, Inc. (SED) is developing a wind turbine project on the grounds of the Wayne Central Middle School in the Town of Ontario, NY.  A PowerWind-56 900-kW wind turbine will be installed at a hub height of 71 meters.  Existing sound levels were estimated from land use, population density and distance to roads for areas near the turbine site.

Tech Environmental performed acoustic modeling with the Cadna-A acoustic model to predict maximum sound levels in accordance with International Standard ISO 9613-2 for both the cut-in and design wind speed operating conditions at nearby school buildings and residences.  Color-coded decibel contour maps were generated. 

Compliance with the Town of Ontario Noise Ordinance and the New York State DEC Noise Guideline was demonstrated at all nearby sensitive receivers.
