Food Waste-to-Energy Project

SERVICE:

Odor Control Design and Testimony

DESCRIPTION:

Tech Environmental was retained by Chestnut Hill BioEnergy, LLC to develop an odor control strategy for a proposed food waste-to-energy plant in Waterbury, Connecticut. The odor control strategy was extremely robust: the entire operations was to be enclosed for receiving, through digestion, and final stabilization. The odor control strategy included multiple technologies that best fit the individual odorants for the food waste receiving area, the biodigester effluent composting operations and the general building air.

Tech Environmental presented the odor control plan at a public meeting for the Greenway Committee and was available to testify at the Connecticut State House regarding a bill to ban this proposed facility and similar food waste-to-energy facilities on the false premise that these facilities could not properly handle their odor potential and therefore would be a neighborhood blight. Although Tech Environmental ultimately did not testify, Tech did present the key points to congressmen for incorporation into the discussion on the floor.
