Riverwalk Redevelopment Project

Greenhouse Gas Analysis

DESCRIPTION:

A greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions analysis was performed for Phases 1 and 2 of the proposed Riverwalk Redevelopment (the Project). Phase 1 includes construction of a 17,000 sf retail building, creation of new public infrastructure including a public park and a 1,500 sf community building, demolition of some existing buildings, and stormwater management improvements. Phase 2 involves renovation of the Wood Mill building for 360,000 sf of office space, renovation of the Cotton Mill building for 144,200 sf of office space, construction of a new 115,000 sf office building, and construction of a parking garage.

Tech estimated stationary and mobile source carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions using the Tech Environmental Energy Model and a U.S. EPA-approved mobile source model. The Mitigation Alternative reduced the Project's total direct and indirect stationary source emissions of CO2 (compared to the Base Case) by 7.7% for Phase 1 and by 7.9% for Phase 2. With transportation emissions included, the Mitigation Alternative reduced the Project's total CO2 emissions by 6.3% for Phase 1 and by 7.5% for Phase 2.
