Act 250 Noise Impact Analysis
DESCRIPTION:
Tech Environmental was retained by Doucet & Associates, Inc. to conduct an Act 250 noise analysis for the proposed relocation of a Wal-Mart Store in Bennington, Vermont. Tech also provided expert testimony at an Act 250 hearing before the Verrmont District Environmental Commision No. 8. The objective of this study was to determine whether the proposed Project would comply with Act 250 noise guidelines.
The first step, was to measure existing sound levels at locations surrounding the project site. The purpose of these measurements was to document the existing acoustic environment prior to construction of the proposed project. The next step, was to calculate the sound levels from the store at various locations around the site. The analysis included a number of sound mitigation measures approved by Wal-Mart. The calculated sound levels at the site property boundaries, Mt. Anthony Country Club, and nearest residences, were then compared with existing sound levels and to the Act 250 sound level guidelines.
Tech demonstrated that the the proposed Project will not create an undue adverse noise impact under Act 250 Criterion 8 (Aesthetics), and that the predicted maximum sound levels from the proposed relocated Wal-Mart will not be out of character with the surrounding area.
