26th Ward Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP)

SERVICE:

Noise Impact Assessment

DESCRIPTION:

Tech Environmental was retained by Hazen and Sawyer to perform a noise impact asssessment for the proposed upgrade of the Preliminary Treatment & Solids Handling facilities at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection's (NYCDEP) 26th Ward Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP). This upgrade included the replacement of existing emergency generator turbines and the installation of new primary treatment odor control systems. These upgrades increased the operational dependability of the facilities and increased reliability for continuous wastewater treatment.

Noise levels generated by a project's operation within the New York City area are subject to City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR) standards and criteria. Tech conducted noise monitoring to document daytime and nighttime ambient conditions. Tech calculated future potential noise impacts assuming simultaneous operation of all sound sources. The results of the noise modeling analysis confirm that the proposed upgrades to the 26th Ward facility would not create an adverse noise increase, in accordance with the CEQR guideline.
