Wal-Mart Wastewater Treatment Plant Noise Study

SERVICE:

WWTP Noise Impact Assessment

DESCRIPTION:

Tech Environmental was retained by Bohler Engineering to perform a noise assessment for the Wal-Mart wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Hooksett, New Hampshire.   The objectives of this study were:  (1) to acoustically model the worst-case maximum equipment operation with a garage door on the south side of the building closed or open; and (2) to compare the operational sounds to background sound levels from roadway traffic on the Wal-Mart site and to the EPA residential noise guideline at the nearest residence. Maximum sound levels were determined using the sound propagation algorithm compliant with  International Standard ISO 9613-2.

The results of the modeling analysis found that with the garage door closed, sound levels  would be 20 dBA less than daytime background traffic sound levels, and thus the WWTP should be inaudible on the Wal-Mart property and in any residential areas.  Tech concluded that the proposed Wal-Mart wastewater treatment plant would not produce loud, disturbing or unnecessary sound.
