Logan International Airport

SERVICE:

Air Quality Modeling System Development

DESCRIPTION:

Boston's Logan Airport was currently undergoing a major capital improvement program to expand roadway and parking facilities, increase the number of gates, rebuild terminals, improve airfield operations, and expand the airport's Central Heating Plant. All of these projects were subject to community review through the State environmental review (EIR) process.

Tech Environmental helped Massport prove that growth at Logan Airport is possible without increasing air quality or odor impacts by developing a special, airport-wide Logan Air Quality Modeling System. By combining emissions from aircraft, ground service vehicles, a power plant, and ground transportation into one air quality and odor modeling tool, Tech Environmental gave Massport the advantage of being able to analyze large numbers of future scenarios quickly and in a cost-effective manner. We also devised a cost-effective solution for the expanded Central Heating Plant's stacks. Tech Environmental provided expert testimony in public hearings and in negotiating sessions with Massachusetts DEP officials.
