SERVICE:

Noise Impact Assessment

DESCRIPTION:

Tech Environmental completed an evaluation of sound levels produced by the operation of rooftop mechanical equipment and trash compactors at a proposed Walgreens in Bellingham, Massachusetts. The objective of this sound study was to assess the impacts of the equipment along the property lines of the nearest residences, to determine compliance with the Town of Bellingham zoning bylaw, and if necessary, to evaluate the effectiveness of mitigation options.

Tech collected existing baseline sound level measurements in the Project area at several noise-sensitive areas during the quietest overnight period to determine what the worst-case future impacts of the Project would be, if any. Tech completed acoustic modeling of the expected rooftop equipment and trash compactors using a sophisticated 3-D acoustic model, which predicted the future sound levels in all nearby residential areas of the proposed project. The predicted sound levels from the Project were less than the limits set in the Bellingham zoning by-law, and therefore, the proposed Project complied with the local regulations.
