Noise Analysis for Four Wind Turbines

DESCRIPTION:

The Town of Edgartown, MA, proposed to install four wind turbines adjacent to the Town wastewater treatment plant, to take advantage of Cape Cod's high winds and state support for local wind energy projects.

Tech Environmental performed a community sound assessment for the Town on behalf of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. Tech used ambient background sound level measurements made previously by another consultant. Manufacturer's data for four makes of wind turbines (Enertech, Vestas, Furhlander and NW) were used to calculate future sound levels with a sophisticated 3-D acoustic model to demonstrate compliance with the MassDEP Noise Policy. Compliance was demonstrated for the design wind speed condition.
