Supermarket Greenhouse Gas Emission Analysis

DESCRIPTION:

A Retailscapes development project, including a Price Chopper Supermarket, was proposed for a site on Route 9 in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. An energy and air quality analysis was required to satisfy the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA)/Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Policy and protocol.

Tech Environmental conducted a GHG emissions analysis for the project that included calculation of both direct and indirect emissions from energy use by the buildings and associated motor vehicle trips to the site. Calculations were conducted using the Tech Environmental Energy Model. The final design included mitigation measures that reduced the project's direct and indirect energy-related GHG emissions by 31.5% and 12.1%, respectively.
