Mashpee-Wampanoag Casino Project

SERVICE:

CO, VOC, NOx and GHG Analyses

DESCRIPTION:

The Mashpee-Wampanoag tribe is studying a proposed $1 billion casino project in Middleborough, MA. This would be the first modern casino resort ever constructed in the state.

Tech Environmental performed a microscale carbon monoxide (CO) analysis for both one-hour and eight-hour periods, following DEP guidelines and using the appropriate EPA air quality model at 19 roadway intersections in the traffic study area. Maximum CO concentrations were predicted for two build alternatives, summed with background levels, and compared to the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). A mesoscale air quality analysis for VOC and NOx emissions was performed in conformance with DEP guidelines. EPA's motor vehicle emission factor model was used to calculate motor vehicle emission rates within the traffic study area for the Existing Case, the Future No-Build Alternative, two Future Build Alternatives, and the two Future Build Alternatives with Traffic Mitigation. All reasonable and feasible TDM measures and roadway/signal improvements were considered and the benefits quantified.

Tech continues to perform studies for this project; ongoing work includes traffic noise analysis and GHG mitigation studies.
