Noise Study of Rooftop Equipment

DESCRIPTION:

A proposed Walgreens and Advance Auto Parts plaza on Route 27 and Nottingham Road in Raymond, New Hampshire faced opposition from the local planning board.  The board was concerned with the operational sound levels of the rooftop mechanical equipment of the proposed project.

Tech Environmental conducted a noise study of the mechanical equipment to determine the worst-case impacts at both the nearest property line and at a residence to north of the Project.  The projected impacts were compared to residential noise guidelines and revealed that, even without mitigation, the cumulative sound level from all mechanical equipment of the stores would comply with the residential guidelines. Tech also evaluated the impact of sound levels produced by the operation of a proposed rock crusher during the construction of the project, and determined that the resulting sound levels would comply with EPA safety guidelines provided that the equipment is located a specified distance from the nearest residential property line.
