SERVICE:

Mesoscale Air Quality Analysis

DESCRIPTION:

A developer, GPI, needed air studies to satisfy Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) requirements for a Wal-Mart development project.

Tech performed a microscale analysis using projected project traffic impacts to meet the MEPA selection criteria so the proposed development could move forward.  The microscale analysis followed the latest Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) guidance and a modeling protocol for the analysis was prepared for MEPA.  The mesoscale analysis predicted that the emissions of VOC and NOx in the project study area for the No-Build and Build cases would be smaller than the existing emissions.  The developer was considering a number of transportation demand management (TDM) strategies and roadway/traffic signal improvements for the project which would improve air quality in the project area.
