Westwood Station

SERVICE:

Air Quality and Noise Impact Analyses

DESCRIPTION:

Westwood Station is a "smart-growth" project consisting of 1,3 million square-feet (sf) of retail space, up to 1,000 residential units, and 1.5 million sf of office space, located near a commuter/AMTRAK train station in Westwood, MA. The air quality and noise impact analyses were used for the required Massachusetts Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and to obtain a Special Permit from the Town of Westwood. Tech was retained to provide air quality and noise studies for the Westwood Station Project.

Tech performed a microscale air quality analysis, with the EPA MOBILE6.2 and CAL3QHC models, to demonstrate that the project traffic would not have an adverse impact on carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations at local intersections, a mesoscale air quality analysis, with the EPA MOBILE6.2 model, to demonstrate that the project would comply with the State Implementation Plan (SIP) for ozone by proposing various transportation demand mitigation (TDM) measures.  An air quality impact analysis, with the EPA AERMOD model, to help design the stack for the project's cogeneration plant.

Tech's noise impact analyses focused on the abutting residential areas and were used to demonstrate that the project would comply with Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) and Town of Westwood noise regulations.  Tech also performed noise monitoring for the project.
