Residential Expansion Shadow Study

DESCRIPTION:

Tech was asked to perform an analysis of the shadow effect of a home expansion.  The analysis determined the increase in the amount of shadow area the expansion could cause on a neighboring residence.

The goal of this study was to determine if the garage expansion would cast shadows on a residence located approximately 150 feet away.  Tech prepared twelve detailed shadow drawings following the methodology required by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs (EOEA) under the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA). The results revealed that the net new shadow from the garage expansion was relatively small and none of the new shadows would affect the residence of concern.
