Concord Wastewater Treatment Plant

SERVICE:

Wastewater Treatment Odor Control Study

DESCRIPTION:

Operations at Concord Wastewater Treatment Plant in Concord, Massachusetts were causing odor complaints from some abutting residences. Tech proposed to perform odor sampling of existing sources and dispersion modeling of existing and future controlled sources to aid in the design of mitigation for the plant. The odor sampling was used to help determine which sources to control, and to estimate the odor source emission rates for the dispersion modeling of the existing plant.

Tech used odor sampling to identify the existing major sources of odor at the wastewater treatment plant. An odor survey was also conducted to determine local residents' level of concern and their historical odor nuisance perspective. Refined dispersion modeling confirmed that odor control for some of the sources would be necessary to reduce the odor complaints. The project also presented and ranked various methods of control for use at the facility.
