OMYA Verpol Plant

SERVICE:

Air Permit

DESCRIPTION:

The OMYA Verpol Plant in Florence, Vermont is an existing 20,000 kg per hour marble crushing plant. Marble is blasted from a nearby surface mine with explosives and trucked to the plant where it is ground to a slurry using mechanical crushers and rollers. The slurry is spray dried and sold as a fine powder to the manufacturing industry.

Particulate Matter is emitted by 17 vents and stacks. TSP concentration from the plant were modeled to show compliance with state and federal ambient air quality standards and PSD increments. The EPA ISCST and VALLEY models were used in a refined modeling protocol that employed five years of hourly meteorological data and examined the issues of building downwash and complex terrain. A permit was obtained from the Vermont Agency of Environmental Conservation for an expansion to the plant.
