DESCRIPTION:

Biogen Idec Inc. (formerly Biogen) is a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based biotechnology company specializing in neurological disorders, autoimmune disorders, and cancer research. Tech Environmental conducted a study to determine the potential air quality impacts from exhaust stacks on the roof of a Biogen laboratory building on neighboring buildings. The study focused on seven air toxics from laboratory vents, SO2, NO2 and particulates from a diesel-fired emergency generator and an emergency gas-fired boiler. The potential for exhaust air recirculation back through the building intakes was also evaluated.

Tech predicted the impacts from the laboratory stacks and used a dispersion model for the emergency equipment. Maximum predicted concentrations were compared to appropriate standards. Tech ultimately determined that all maximum predicted pollutant concentrations were within public health standards.
