Carberry Mountain Landfill

Landfill Gas Hydrogen Sulfide Pretreatment Design

DESCRIPTION:

Tech Environmental was approached by Aquest Corporation (Somers, CT) to assist them in designing the piping for a hydrogen sulfide (H2S) removal system at the Carberry Mountain Landfill in New Hampshire. Tech Environmental aided Aquest in creating a final design that included four 15' tall, 12' diameter steel vessels containing SulfaTreat H2S scavenging media to remove H2S from the landfill gas stream prior to destruction by a flare.

The carefully designed piping of this system was unique, in that it allowed the landfill operator the flexibility to treat the gas through any number of the four vessels at the one time and in multiple configurations (i.e. lead-lag). This type of flexibility was ideal for this specific type of odor control, since it allowed the operator to completely consume the media contained within each vessel before expensive media change-outs while not sacrificing performance. Tech's expertise allowed for a design that provided the operator the flexibility to maximize the use of scavenger media, minimizing operating costs without sacrificing performance.
